Participated in football, basketball and track in high school. All-U.P. in football. Graduated from Notre Dame, cumlaude. Played football 1932, 1933, and1934. Captain his Senior year, and named to the All-American team. Awarded the Byron V. Kanalley Award by the University for Senior athletic leadership. Played for the Green Bay Packers in 1936.
