The tremendous strength of character we see in the life of Mrs. Lehto is representative of a generation of women teachers who taught in the country one-room schoolhouses. Their remarkable sacrifice and dedication provided an example to generations of youth, not only in the importance of education, but in becoming responsible American citizens.
