Surveyor and Forester
Charles "Chuck" Hein served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1948 to 1967, leaving with the rank of Captain. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Michigan Tech. He served as a forester and surveyor for 18 years. In 1973, he began a distinguished teaching career at MTU, and during the next 22 years served as a lecturer, assistant professor/coordinator of surveying and acting department head. In 1984, he developed the baccalaureate program in land surveying. He was honored with several awards, including the Surveyor of the Past Award by the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors in 2011.
