Smith is a 1967 graduate of Michigan Tech. He has been active in both business and politics. He is Vice President of the California firm, Oatey Supply Chain Services. He is also one of the longest serving mayors in the United States, having served the city of Newark, California for 27 years. Smith has been selected as one of California’s Five Outstanding Young Men and an Outstanding Young Alumni by Michigan Tech.
