Greetings and Welcome to the Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw.

Thank you for taking time to visit the C-L-K Web site to learn more about one of the State's premier school districts. The Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw was founded in 1867, and the success experienced by the district since then has truly been remarkable.

Here are just a few things I'd like you to know about C-L-K:

  • In 2012-13, the CLK Schools partnered with Gogebic Community College to offer an Early College Program for Calumet High School students. Currently there are 156 students in the program which consists of 105 junior and seniors (45% of student population) and 51 students who are in the 5th year of high school which is 53% of their graduating class. By taking a combination of high school classes and college courses, high school students will be able to graduate from CLK's Early College after five years with both a high school diploma and an Associate Degree. The college credits earned in the program, up to 63, may also be transferable towards an undergraduate degree from a four-year college or university. There will be NO tuition cost to the student or family for the courses taken in the Early College Program. Visit the Calumet High School website for more information on the Early College program.

  • CLK Schools operates the Upper Peninsula Virtual Academy (UPVA) which is a virtual K-12 school that any student in the Upper Peninsula can enroll in. Visit the UPVA website @ www.upva.net for more information on this unique educational opportunity.

  • In 2014-15 CLK Schools launched the Keweenaw Family Discovery Center which is a partnership between the CLK Schools and the local Home School Community. Home School students enroll into the CLK Schools and can take advantage of elective course offerings and have access to virtual core subjects. Visit the Discovery Center website at www.keweenawfamilydiscoverycenter.org for more information.

  • CLK Schools remains one of the most technologically advanced district's in the nation as every student in grades K-12 receives a Chromebook as CLK continues with its anywhere, anytime learning initiative from the 2011-2012 school year. In addition, every classroom has an interactive flat panel to increase visual learning, all schools have created collaborative learning spaces out of old computer lab spaces, CLK Elementary and Horizons Alternative High School have a dedicated STEM Lab, and Calumet High School has a newly renovated Fabrication Lab. All of which provide a 21st Century learning environment for the students of CLK.

  • In 2014-15 Bridge Magazine and the Lansing research firm of Public Sector Consultants named CLK Schools a 2014 Academic State Champion which comprises of districts that are in the top 5% state-wide. Their ranking system also placed CLK as 27th best school district in Michigan and the 3rd ranked school district in the Upper Peninsula.

  • In 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15, Calumet High School was honored as being one of "America's Best" high schools by U. S. News and World Report, in collaboration with School Evaluation Services. The agency also ranked the high school as being the 59th best in the State of Michigan.

  • In 2014-15, Newsweek Magazine ranked the best 2000 high schools in the nation and Calumet High School was named to this list of elite schools. CHS was also ranked the 68th best high school in Michigan by the publication and only one of two Upper Peninsula schools.

  • In 2011, US News and World Report ranked CLK Schools 5th in the United States in its annual ranking of the country's "Most Connected Classrooms".

  • Horizon's High School was chosen as the 2008 State of Michigan Alternative School of the Year.

  • C-L-K Elementary School was identified as a high performing school by the National Center for Education Accountability.

While our Web site tells a powerful story, the best way to get to know the school district is to come and visit us. I am convinced you will like what you see.

Thank you.
